Hi Barry,
The Adelaide Bureau of Meteorology stated that Adelaide had just had it’s coldest winter in 35 years.
How does this fit in with global warming?
If the bureau had announced that Adelaide had just had it’s
warmest winter in 35 years half the scientists in the United Nations would be pointing to Adelaide and saying that this is conclusive proof that global warming is occurring.
As it is the silence is deafening?
I guess this can be explained with “climate change” – can’t miss out with this as it covers absolutely everything.
So, which ecological doomsday prediction are we running with – global warming or climate change??????????????????

We’re still running with global warming, Mark. Despite our local hubris, I have to tell you that Adelaide is not the world, or indeed the centre of it. Indeed, think about this:
Area of Adelaide = 1,827 km2
Area of World = 510,072,000 km2
Fraction of world represented by Adelaide = 0.00036%
There are always hot and cold spots on Earth – it’s called weather.
Last year was the hottest for South Australia on record by the way, not just the hottest in 35 years – the hottest since records began in 1910. Our summer of 2007/08, including a heatwave that broke all records, was also extraordinarily hot.

But if you didn’t know that then I guess scientists were not trumpeting this point loudly enough. So it was a straw man you were erecting after all.
Perhaps you should listen to my first two lectures, where I explain this, rather than ignoring them and making unsupportable statements like this.

Mark, the term “climate change” has stuck, thanks mainly to a once-upon-a-time adviser to the Bush Administration and former “denier” of Global Warming.

Sure, climate is changing (some places more-so than others) and there will be both winners and losers (in the short term) … but statistically speaking, the globe is warming (bad for ‘us’ in the long term).
Btw, Luntz now believes Global Warming is a real and serious threat.
